Gerald Lewis, Kahloola, was born and raised on the Yakama Reservation and lived at Celilo, a major fishing and trading site on the Columbia River for thousands of years until it was inundated in 1957 by the creation of the Dalles Dam.

Lewis graduated from Haskell Indian Nations University and returned home to the Yakama Reservation where he worked for Yakama Nation Fisheries 20 years prior to being elected to Tribal Council.

First elected to Tribal Council in 2012, Lewis has dedicated more than a decade to Tribal leadership and currently serves as Chairman of the Yakama Nation Tribal Council. He also serves on the following Committees: Executive (Chairman); Enrollment (Chairman); Budget and Finance (Chairman); Cultural (Member); and Public Relation/Media (Chairman).

Lewis is committed to improving the lives of his People, focusing on economic development, education, healthcare, and protection of the Yakama Nation’s natural resources and cultural heritage. He is a strong and respected leader who is committed to advocating for the Yakama Nation’s present and future, while ensuring preservation of its past.
