Ruth Jim, Ty’Xhul Wyat, was born in White Swan, Washington. She attended Fortsill Indian School in Oklahoma, and her work for the Yakama Nation includes working for the Language Program, Tribal Council as secretary, and telephone operator. She has also worked for Grant County PUD.

Jim is serving her third term on Tribal Council and currently serves on the following Committees: Loan, Extension, Education, and Housing (Member); Radioactive/Hazardous Waste (Member); Veteran’s (Member); and Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (Member).

Throughout her service, Jim has advocated for protection of cultural resources, water rights, and Treaty-reserved areas of the Reservation and ceded lands even opposing pipelines around the Columbia River region. “All those things that are up in the closed area are close to us as People. It saddens me that the young People do not understand the importance of it.”
